Roofing Trouble Spots

It’s not always easy to spot all the warning signs with your roof unless your a roofing contractor. Contact JNS Restorations today for a free consultation and we will be glad to have a look for you.

1. Ceiling Spots

  • Caused by leaks in roof.
  • Check attic or crawlspace for leaks in roof deck.
  • Check chimney and vents for cracks in and around all flashings.
  • Check rafters for leaks that travel away from original source follow where the water drips..
  • Check roof for damaged shingles, missing shingles or flashing.

2. Damage Flashing

  • Can be caused by improper installation.
  • Caused by drying and cracking of flashing and or sealants.
  • Can usually be repaired without replacing roof in most cases.

3. Missing Shingles

  • Can be caused by improper fastening.
  • Caused by exposure to high winds or extreme heat.
  • Can usually be replaced individually or in sections.

4. Buckling & 5.Curling Spots

  • Caused by improperly applied felt (buckling).
  • Caused by movement in deck (buckling).
  • Caused by under saturation of felt in organic-based shingles (curling).

6. Blistering

  • Caused by too much moisture in shingles.
  • Caused by excessive use of asphalt plastic cement.

7. Algae Growth

  • Can Caused by growth of airborne algae deposited on roof.
  • Unsightly appearance does not affect the service life of the material.
  • This is a Common problem in warm, humid climates.
  • As a option Algae resistant shingles available regionally.

8. Missing Granules

  • On newly applied shingles, a certain number of loose granules is normal.
  • On aging shingles, missing granules indicate need for replacement.

9. Rotting

  • Caused by absorption of moisture by mat at the core of the shingle.
  • Common problem with organic-based shingles.
